Having now implemented EA as the tool for analysis and design, for over 11 organisations, I have found that a critical part of its adoption is the transition from using word to create the project document deliverables - to generating them directly from EA in the form of reports.
In the course of getting there I had to address a number of challenges and the transition was not plain sailing by any means. The good news is if you are aware of the challenges and are willing to put in the effort you can produce high quality documents directly from your project models.
This whitepaper looks at these challenges and how they were overcome using approaches that have worked in large and small organisations enabling them to use EA as the core tool for the production of the various documents that are required during the product development lifecycle.

Hi Ross, I am new to EA but think this is a fantastic tool in delivering IS projects Over the past few years I have been using MS Visio when implementing projects. Obviously EA has way more functionality and control for a project manager. My question is, are their books, tutorials or online courses that you can recommend? I have to start at the beginning but also need to hit the ground running. Thanks Albert

Hi Albert, Great to see you have made the move to a real modelling tool. Your question is an interesting one. Sparx lists two online trainers - however list courses for 7.5 (we are now at 9.1) and the other really doesn't look to provide online training (they do webinar training sessions). I have run a number of very successful one on one remote training/mentoring sessions using WebEx where, rather than run formal training units, I focus on developing skills in the key areas required by the client. This is then supplemented by my training modules handouts and support sessions were we work through approaches and problem areas. I have used this approach to fast train a number of my clients, in a range of roles, and it has proven very cost effective for them. If this approach sounds like the option for you I suggest you contact me and we can look at a suitable package that meets your needs. www.parkconsulting.co.nz At this stage there is no book that focuses on EA - but watch this space - it's comming! P.S. Sparx provide a free add-in that allows you to import your Visio diagrams into EA so if you have any IP locked away in Visio diagrams you can get the basic models into EA. Kind regards Ross Park
