Sparx Systems listed in CIOReview's 20 Most Promising SOA Technology Providers of 2015
Sparx Systems has been recognized for it's leadership in providing quality technology in support of Service Oriented Architecture Technology related modeling.
CIOReview recently published a list of the "...20 most promising SOA Solution Providers, listing the best vendors and consultants who provide key technology solutions and services related to SOA." CIOReview is a technology magazine that talks about the enterprise solutions that can define the business goals of enterprises of tomorrow.
Enterprise Architect implements the OMG’s Service oriented architecture Modeling Language (SoaML), which provides a standards-based approach to modeling SOA solutions using the UML.
As a natural complement to SoaML, Enterprise Architect also supports the Service Oriented Modeling Framework (SOMF), which encourages a holistic view of enterprise software entities via a technology-independent notation. The SOMF modeling notation provides an intuitive approach to visualize “used-to-be”, “as-is” and “to-be” states of the enterprise service portfolio.

Mobility - Global Change Agent
According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 2013, there are almost as many mobile-cellular subscriptions as people in the world and in 2014 the number of mobile phones in use will exceed the number of people on the planet.
The mobile revolution is providing equity of access to education, health, government, banking, environment and business for many sectors of the global community while challenging enterprise business models in every sector. It is a platform that is here to stay and a disruptive influence on business that cannot be ignored.
Mobile devices form the platform that will deliver work models that are very different from the past and facilitate social networking. This force will inform the enterprise architecture that will deliver strategic support for mobile devices owned by employees and provide open, secure environments to allow these devices to connect to enterprise systems including the cloud.
By defining an envisioned future state that can be shared and discussed, enterprise architecture will assist organizations to navigate change in an agile manner while enabling milestones to be achieved within agreed time-frames. A key standard for enterprise architecture is the use of UML for creating design models: http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/platforms/soa.html
Enterprise architecture is about ensuring that an organization has the right integration/alignment between IT and the business (including people, processes, investments, information and technology) in order to better support the business's capabilities and to enable the business to evolve toward a future state, according to Gartner - “It is not just about technology. Enterprise Architecture is the key to driving digital strategy": http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2586115
From Business Capabilities to SOA - TOGAF 9.1 and Archimate 2.0 using Sparx
Summary of the presentation (from the EA User Group Meeting at Nuremberg, Oct. 8th 2013)
This animated presentation downloadable below is about the Open Group's TOGAF 9.1 and ArchiMate 2.0 standards. It illustrates on a short case study how to use the ArchiMate ® 2.0 notations throughout TOGAF® 9’ ADM phases until aligning SOA implementation components with changing business strategies and capabilities* using Sparx EA.
The single slide case study is provided using the Balanced Score Cards perspectives to conduct TOGAF 9 / Archimate 2.0 EA Operating Model.
(*) Capability (TOGAF 9.1 Definition) : An ability that an organization, person or system possesses. Capabilities are typically expressed in general and high-level terms and typically require a combination of organization, people, processes and technology to achieve. For example, marketing, customer contact or outbound telemarketing.
- A business capability is a particular ability or capacity that a business may possess or exchange to achieve a specific purpose or outcome - Ulrich Homann - Microsoft
- A business capability defines “what” a business does at its core. This differs from “how” things are done or where they are done (William Ulrich - BPMInstitute.org / OMG's BASIG )

eBook: Modeling Service Oriented Architectures
This E-book presents a practical approach to modeling Service-Oriented Architecture solutions from concept to code. The author helps us to understand key SOA concepts and demystifies the "acronym soup" surrounding service-oriented development. Using an illustrated example, the reader is guided through the 'hands-on' ICONIX Process Roadmap for Service-Oriented Architecture. Each step of the roadmap is brought to life using Enterprise Architect Business and Software Engineering edition to derive concrete deliverables from visual models.
Topics include: business rules identification, generating web service interfaces from visual models, BPEL engineering and behavioral code generation.
The eBook is accompanied by an "SOA Project Template" EA model.
The SOA Project Template model contains our SOA Roadmap, a pre-fabricated project package structure, and a Car Rental example which includes:
- a Domain Model
- a WSDL package
- a BPMN model
- example of BPEL code generation from the BPMN model
- a Rule Flow diagram containing Rule Tasks for use with the Business Rule Composer and Behavioral Code Generation
ICONIX now offers JumpStart training on the process described in this eBook, details are available at http://www.iconixsw.com/soajumpstart.html
