Sparx Systems specializes in high performance and scalable visual modeling tools for the planning, design and construction of software intensive systems. A Contributing Member of the Object Management Group (OMG), Sparx Systems is committed to realizing the potential of model-driven development based on open standards. The company’s flagship product, Enterprise Architect, has received numerous accolades since its commercial release in August, 2000. Enterprise Architect is the design tool of choice for over 740,000 registered users worldwide.

The Geospatial World Forum, run out of Rotterdam in The Netherlands is a premier international event showcasing the latest geospatial technology and its value to the world economy. Sparx Systems has been invited to speak at this event, because of its involvement and support for the sector and its relationship with the INSPIRE community, specifically smeSPIRE.

Ken Harkin, Sparx Systems' Business Development Manager will be discussing the ways that Sparx Systems, as a global SME, engages with this community through the provision of Enterprise Architect, accepted as one the most popular UML modelling and design tools within the sector.

This paper introduces Enterprise Architect's simulation capabilities for State Machines by means of an example model.

State Machine simulation can help you to verify that the run-time behavior of your designed system conforms to specification. In this paper, we explore an example 'Digital Clock' system model and bring to life several aspects of Enterprise Architect's State Machine simulation support.

Presented by Mr Scott Hebbard

May 2013

Mr Scott Hebbard, Communications Manager at Sparx Systems, will demonstrate helpful tools and techniques for achieving traceability in Enterprise Architect - from decisions to deployment. Learn how to:

  • Perform impact analysis in Enterprise Architect
  • Record and track changes to the model
  • Leverage Enterprise Architect's powerful model search capabilities.

To suit users in different time zones, we will hold two sessions - each 30 minutes in duration.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about diagramming in Enterprise Architect!

Enterprise Architect provides the facilities to create and edit models, to derive implementation code from models, and then to test and analyze the resulting software systems. This whitepaper shows how these activities can all be achieved within a single model driven development environment, and highlights the benefits of doing so.

This paper covers Enterprise Architect's build, debug and testing features along with its Visual Execution Analysis tools. Together, these tools allow you to integrate your model with each and every phase of the software development lifecycle, thereby facilitating true Model Driven Development.

Enterprise Architect supports comprehensive functionality for modeling database structures. This paper covers the core features for data modeling over the full lifecycle of an application.

The initial development of a system typically involves numerous levels of abstraction.  Database modeling traditionally includes a well established three tiered approach:

  1. Conceptual Model
  2. Logical Model
  3. Physical Model

This paper covers creating these models, interconnecting models on these levels, using MDA transforms for generating the Physical model from the Logical model, along with generating schema scripts for loading to your DBMS. It also covers the features for remodeling legacy systems including Reverse Engineering an existing DBMS structure.

Sparx Systems is pleased to announce a new live webinar.  Mr Ben Constable, Senior Analyst at Sparx Systems, will demonstrate powerful tools for rapid visual modeling in Enterprise Architect.

This webinar is an excellent opportunity to learn about recent enhancements and helpful tools for diagramming in Enterprise Architect, and to have your questions answered. Two live sessions will be conducted to accommodate users in different time zones.

We invite you to register at:

Mr Ben Constable

You are cordially invited to join us on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 where customers actively using Sparx Systems’ Enterprise Architect will join with Sparx’ Global Partners to share real life experiences and success stories.

Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect has a worldwide community of loyal customers: a loyal following that includes Business architects, TOGAF Architects, Business Analysts, Software Engineers, QA testers and Project Managers. This one day conference will provide participants with one of the most concentrated single-day learning experiences in Canada.

If you attend, be ready to go beyond simplistic notions of “just another tool” and hear how many diverse customers have leveraged Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect in amazing ways. The Sparx Community of Ottawa “Enterprise Architect” conference will be held in Ottawa, Canada and hosted at Statistics Canada on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

Registration limited to first 100 ONSITE SEATS ONLY (onsite event only no online broadcast is allowed at this time due to venue business rules)

Sparx Systems is pleased to announce our next webinar entitled "Enterprise Architect Hidden Gems: Project Management and Visual Execution Analysis".

This webinar provides an excellent opportunity for our partners and customers to ask the presenters about new features and enhancements in Enterprise Architect.

We will conduct two live sessions to accommodate users in different time zones. Please register at:

An Overview of UPDM

The Unified Profile for DoDAF/MODAF (UPDM) is a modeling standard by The OMG that supports two popular defense frameworks. This whitepaper covers the core concepts behind modeling with UPDM using Enterprise Architect.

When organizations work together on a strategic task, all interacting entities – from human resources to deployed systems – must be well coordinated to achieve the desired outcome. Strategic interactions can range from joint military operations, to cooperation between fire search and rescue task forces. UPDM provides an appropriate modeling framework for describing such interactions.

This whitepaper explains how to model with UPDM using Enterprise Architect's MDG technology for UPDM.
