With the release of Enterprise Architect 9.3, Build 931, Sparx Systems announced the official release of its UML profile for modeling, importing and exporting ArcGIS geodatabase schemas. MDG Technology for ArcGIS is designed to enchance the work of analysyts and architects who implement geospatial databases using Esri's ArcGIS platform.

The profile, with its associated tools for forward and reverse engineering ArcGIS schemas, also helps to bridge the gap between the important work of spatial architects and that of other architects in the enterprise. By providing a common-language model of the geodatabase design using UML, data models in use by the wider enterprise can be directly linked to concepts implemented by spatial experts.

MDG Technology for ArcGIS is immediately available to users of Enterprise Architect 9.3, Build 931 across all editions.

Model Driven Success

Sparx Systems is pleased to announce the official release of Enterprise Architect 9.3 (Build 930).

Enterprise Architect 9.3 provides unprecedented customization options, including the  User Interface Customization Wizard to quickly and easily manage your workspace, toolbar and technology needs.  Create custom layouts and share common views with other team members.

Enhance your modeling experience by displaying multiple diagrams and other views simultaneously. This means you can edit several diagrams, while referring to related source code, project requirements, or model search results in separate Floating Views. Complex code also becomes easier to understand and debug by generating sequence diagrams showing the interaction between multiple instances of a class. Create UML Object diagrams interactively to analyze and capture the execution state of objects and their run-time relationships.

Support for the latest ArchiMate 2 standard, an expand beta profile for ArcGIS geodatabase modeling are among many other enhancements included in Enterprise Architect 9.3!

MDG Technology for ArcGIS is designed to help users model geodatabases for Esri's ArcGIS platform in Enterprise Architect. The technology provides a UML profile for ArcGIS and supports export and import of ArcGIS geodatabase schemas.

The new ArcGIS technology built into Enterprise Architect 9, Build 908 includes:

  • A UML profile for ArcGIS
  • A new ArcGIS diagram type and toolbox support
  • A Model Pattern that helps you structure an ArcGIS Workspace model
  • Quick Linker support to help you build valid ArcGIS schemas
  • An exporter that generates ArcGIS 10.0 workspaces in XML, readable by ArcCatalog
  • An importer for reverse engineering existing geodatabases in UML form

A brief video demonstration of the MDG Technology for ArcGIS is available.

MDG Technology for ArcGIS Beta is immediately available in Enterprise Architect 9, Build 908.

Support for modeling ArcGIS databases in Enterprise Architect was developed in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), who defined mappings between UML 2 and ArcGIS concepts, and prototyped an automated import and export capability for ArcGIS geodatabase schemas represented in UML.

Sparx Systems welcomes your feedback and suggestions on the beta ArcGIS profile.
