Using EA for producing Software Development Project Specifications at DEEWR

John Paul de Sousa and Aggie Zubowicz will be presenting on the DEEWR Employment Systems BAway and the use of Enterprise Architect for producing software development project specifications.

Our presenters have both contributed to the development of the Enterprise Architect repository structure and Enterprise Architect plugins, designed to support the work of DEEWR’s Employment Systems Group business analysts. These BAs develop applications hosted in the following infrastructures; smart client external and internal facing, websites, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint.

The presentation will focus on how Enterprise Architect has been structured and extended to allow the Analysts to do their requirements modelling work in a consistent manner, with the ability to output a variety of specification types.

John Paul is a Business Analyst at DEEWR who has worked with a variety of government departments as a business analyst on software development projects.

Aggie Zubowicz
Aggie has worked as a business analyst and tester, specifying and testing software to deliver capacity for employment service providers to implement government policy directed at assisting Australia’s job seekers maintain and keep meaningful employment.

Enterprise Tester 4.4 Out Now!

 

Hot on the heels of last month's release of the REST API, the team at Catch Software are pleased to announce the release of Enterprise Tester 4.4. This latest release introduces new LDAP / sychronization features, enhancements to the API, project dependencies, and more...

LDAP Synchronization

We've wanted to add this feature for ages, so we're stoked to get it into 4.4... automatic LDAP synchronization and scheduling of user account creation is now here! You can automatically authenticate against LDAP as well as filtering and synchronizing your users, groups, and group memberships.

REST API Enhancements

Check out the changes to the REST API since our 4.3 release. You can now do user and group partial searches and project assignee searches, we've added support for CORS (cross-origin resource sharing) requests, and we have added more details in the in-app help.

Everything you need to get started with the API is right there are your fingertips.

Inherited Project Dependencies

Inherit project dependencies and picklist values from the organization with the click of a button. This new feature makes it quicker and easier to set up new projects and make global changes to Enterprise Tester.

Enterprise Architect is a fantastic tool that allows you to model anything from development classes and database design, to your organisations enterprise architectural framework. While an organisation gets value from using Enterprise Architect in each of these spaces, the real value is when the whole organisation gets involved. From reuse of actors or roles while performing your analysis, to reuse of these same actors in your Human Resources department for your organisational structure, or even the job descriptions they create.

In this presentation Bryce Day is putting a focus on using Enterprise Architect in a business context. Walking you through a pathway of utilising the Business Motivation Model (BMM) and its interconnections across the Project Management Office (PMO) to a unique requirement in project.

This month Anthony Draffin, from the Department of Health & Ageing, is going to do a presentation on using and composing patterns in Enterprise Architect entitled ‘Patterns - More Than Mere Stencils’. This will be a topic that builds on core Enterprise Architect functionality -  Gang of Four Patterns - but expands it to analysis and workflow level patterns

Our second speaker, Will Francis, CSIRO, will be doing the second presentation on the use of Enterprise Architect on the Solid Ground software product. This presentation will look at the registry design principles which enable communities to develop, share, re-use and maintain modular information models across enterprise boundaries. A new version of Enterprise Tester has just been released and this month we've added additional integration options into the product. 

This latest version offers integration into Microsoft's Team Foundation Server (TFS) for defect tracking and requirements capture, and if you're running Duette you can now import results from unit test frameworks and Selenium. New features include:

• Integration with Team Foundation Server (TFS) added for synchronizing incidents and requirements.
• Ability to change tester for in-progress runs added.
• Support added for import HTML Suite results from Selenium tests.
• Support added for importing results from unit tests frameworks (JUnit, NUnit, Gallio, Parasoft C++test, JSUnit & PHPUnit).
• And much more...  

What does this mean for Enterprise Architect users?

Enterprise Tester allows you to automatically create test scripts from the use case and requirements you have in Enterprise Architect, saving testers time and effort in creating them from scratch. Since you can now integrate Microsoft's Team Foundation Server (as well as Atlassian's JIRA) you have new option for your end-to-end tool chain.

On average integrating your tool chain equates to a saving of 60% of your test setup time, 4% of the total project cost, and better visibility of the relationships and dependencies between requirements, test scripts, execution sets, and incidents.
