We are proud to announce a new version of EnArPower Tools, the must-have extension for all Enterprise Architect power users. Version 2 of EnArPower Tools contains the “Package Dependency Generator“. It automatically generates dependencies between different packages and visualize them by creating a package diagram. Especially when reverse engineering applications with Enterprise Architect, this plug-in helps you to discover and better understand the structure of your system. Being aware of dependencies inside the systems’ components is crucial for maintaining or migrating the system. A dependency is generated if an element is directly connected (associations, generalizations, etc.) to an element of…

This morning I saw a survey from a worldwide modeling tool vendor which inquired about the perception that people have of Capability-based Planning, capabilities, capability maps, processes vs capability maps, etc... Capabilities are becoming the hot topics of the industry. They can be used to do: Planning Enterprise architecture Process design Benchmarking Activity Base Accounting (ABC) Software evaluations etc... Insurance Frameworks are making available to all insurance/wealth management clients, Sparx resellers and Sparx VARs an extensive Capability Map for the insurance and wealth management industry. It can even be applicable to the banking industry. Contrary to other modelling tool vendors,…

The Geography Markup Language (GML), adopted as an International Standard (ISO19136) in 2007, is an XML grammar used to express geographical features. As a modeling language for geographic systems, GML also serves as encoding to transport and store geographic information. The inter-dependancy of energy management and supply, geospatial and architecture, engineering and construction sectors is a factor that is essential to the success of the SmartGrid. Standards enable data interoperability between the stakeholders and the OASIS eMIX (Energy Market Information Exchange) standard uses the OGC Geography Markup Language (GML) Encoding Standard. I went to the first EAUG (Enterprise Architect User Group) on the 15th of May, where around 100 people from the EA community of users and experts gathered in London. I summarised in this article a selection of talks I attended: "Modeling Software Intensive Systems" by Doug Rosenberg from ICONIX, hinting the concept of SwissML (SysML + UML) to reach the same amount of specifications for both software and hardware blocks of an embedded system. Doug discussed about the incompatibility of agile software development processes in a context where the delivered software is not the final product, but part of…

"Probably the largest collection of Sparx EA talent ever assembled"
Written by ianemitchell
At the end of a dark tunnel, in a quiet corner of industrial London, we gathered at secret location. From the outside, it looked like a set from a 60's spy film. Deserted railway sidings, occasional glimpses of shadowy figures in the distance. But inside and anonymous shed, it was more like the Starship Enterprise. Shiny hi-tech, bright lights and the largest tube map ever seen. It was the second Sparx System Enterprise Architect European User Group meeting, Wednesday 15th May 2013, Transport for London training centre. More than 100 delegates, from 50 companies and organisations in 8 countries met…
